History of the University Foreign Language Centre
The University Foreign Language Centre has a history spanning more than fifty years. The current structure of the Centre has evolved as a result of the following organisational changes:
- 19 June 1969 – Teacher Training College in Kielce – Centre for the Practical Study of Foreign Languages
- 1973 – Higher School of Pedagogical Sciences in Kielce – Interfaculty Foreign Language Centre (IFLC)
- 2000 – Świętokrzyska Academy in Kielce – IFLC
- 2008 – Jan Kochanowski University of Humanities and Sciences in Kielce – IFLC
- 2010 – Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce – IFLC
In the 2025/2026 academic year, the Centre was renamed the University Language Centre of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce.
Currently, the Centre employs more than twenty full-time teaching staff and two administrative staff members. Language courses are offered in English, German, Russian, Latin and Spanish. In addition to language courses, the Centre administers language certification examinations and examinations for students participating in the Erasmus exchange programme, and also organises enrolment for fee-paying language courses. Teachers of the University Language Centre participate in training courses, workshops, conferences and webinars. They organise competitions, including a nationwide competition in English for the medical sciences and a Medical English competition held at the University. They cooperate with other units of the University, such as the Children’s University.
The Centre and its educational activities are managed by mgr Ewa Mamrot-Tuszyńska and mgr Aleksandra Kasprzyk. The following bodies operate within the Centre: the Centre’s Council, language teams, teams for promotion and study programme evaluation.
The work of the Centre and the commitment of its teachers are highly rated by students in course evaluation surveys.
